Our partners in the spotlight: Institute of Electrical Energy Conversion (IEW)

Share:

The Institute of Electrical Energy Conversion (IEW) is part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Stuttgart.

Founded in 1883 and restructured in 2011 under the leadership of Prof. Parspour, it now employs around 20 research associates working in two main research areas: electrical machines and actuators, as well as wireless power transfer. In addition to fundamental research on modelling, optimization, and control of these systems, the institute also addresses application-oriented topics in the fields of electromobility, industrial production, and medical technology.

IEW’s work drives the integration of AI into both the design of electromagnetic systems and the operation of high-efficiency actuators and wireless power transfer technologies.

Why AI-MATTERS?

As part of AI Matters, IEW is committed to embedding trustworthy AI into high-efficiency electromagnetic systems, including electrical actuators, traction drives, and inductive charging solutions.

Highlighted Services:

  • AI-based fault detection of electric drives: Experimentation facilities for the analysis of new, AI-based fault detection strategies of electric drives. The detection and identification of faults e.g. in the power electronics and their effects on the electric machine can be analyzed.
  • AI-based control of electric machines: Enables the analysis of new, AI-based control strategies for efficient, optimized and highly dynamic operation of electric drives.
  • Accelerated Design of Electrical Machines using AI-supported Optimization: Enables a parametric design of electrical machines that are optimized for a specific task by an optimization routine. The time-consuming FEA calculations are replaced by a high-performance AI-based surrogate model.
