Introducing AI-MATTERS
Framed under the DIGITAL Europe Programme, the AI-MATTERS project brings together a consortium of major organizations from eight European countries (Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, and Spain) to create a world-class reference network of testing and experimentation facilities (TEF) for AI in manufacturing.
The project, with a total budget of 60M€, is co-funded by the European Commission under the Digital Europe Programme and sources at national/regional level.
Get to know the nodes: Germany
In every newsletter, we put the spotlight on one of AI-MATTERS’ nodes. In this edition, the German node presents itself.
The German node has their main facilities at the Stuttgart campus of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the University of Stuttgart and the adjacent ARENA2036 e.V., which is a research campus focused on agile production.
The services offered by the German node focus on AI technologies for small and mid-sized companies in the field of assembly and engineering, including advanced human-robot collaboration in manufacturing. The Fraunhofer Institute IPA initially focusses on supporting all partners in defining their testing and experimentation services based on common rules and quality criteria. Furthermore, common operating principles are driven, and a service-pricingmodel is harmonized across the network. Additionally, IPA will offer services related to human-robot collaboration, autonomous mobile robots, and computer vision, among others. Jointly with ARENA2036, IPA will perform the physical setup of the German Node.
ARENA2036 offers AI-based services for improving designs and ensuring quality inspection, which includes a testing infrastructure at ARENA2036 for AI technology using 5G/6G networks. AI-driven services support industrial mobility through automated guided vehicles and robot-based bin picking. Furthermore, the Institute of Electrical Energy Conversion of the University of Stuttgart will offer services related to improved reliability and optimal control of electric drives, among others.
The German Node has a second site located in Braunschweig at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), the German national metrology institute. The PTB contributes its vast knowledge onprecision measurement and on providing calibration and testing services, including digital calibration certificates. The PTB will offer services related to metrology applications in the manufacturing field. It is planned to extend its existing internet-based service for testing of 3D data evaluationalgorithms with AI-based evaluation algorithms.
Unlocking the Power of AI in High-Tech Manufacturing
