AI-Matters is a European network of testing and experimentation facilities, aiming at increasing the resilience and the flexibility of the European manufacturingsector through the deployment of the latest developments in AI, robotics and intelligent, autonomous systems for flexible production. The project is co-funded by the European Commission and sources at national/regional level.

In every newsletter, we put the spotlight on one of AI-MATTERS’ nodes. In this edition, the Czech Republic presents itself.

The Czech node consists of three industrial testbeds equipped with state-of-the-art technology and unique data sets, each with a strong focus on a variety of AI-driven domains in the field of intelligent robotics and advanced manufacturing. These testbeds can be found at Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics of Czech Technical University in Prague (CIIRCCTU, node coordinator), Central European Institute of Technology at the Brno University of Technology (CEITECBUT) and VSB -Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO).

All testbeds offer a unique technology environment for developing, testing and validating innovative solutions for advanced industrial manufacturing. Each has research and expert teams at its disposal, with an excellent background know-how from multiple collaboration projects with industry. For more information about the node’s domains of expertise and available equipment, click the button below.

DeepGreen collaborates with AI-MATTERS to offer the Eclipse AIdge platform in our service catalogue. The synergy aims to make embedded AI accessible and tailored to the concrete needs of industry. Thanks to this collaboration industrial companies benefit from direct access to Aidge via the AI-MATTERS ecosystem, with simplified procedures. To find out how to integrate Aidge into your projects, visit the AI-MATTERS website and check out the “How it works” section. You’ll find all the information on how to activate the service, get personalized support, and be part of the AI-MATTERS ecosystem.

CASP, a pioneering Athens‑based software firm, harnessed the capabilities of AI‑MATTERS to revolutionize its multi‑robot task planning and resource orchestration. By partnering with the network, CASP rigorously validated and enhanced its AI module in real‑world settings—achieving faster reconfiguration, heightened operational reliability, and seamless deployment beyond the lab. Their journey exemplifies how AI‑MATTERS’ test‑and‑experimentation facilities are empowering manufacturers to translate cutting‑edge AI solutions into tangible industrial performance gains. Read on to discover CASP’s roadmap to smarter, more agile production.

Similar to a lot of companies, NFB Coating, a precision metal‑coating specialist, faces rising labour costs and workforce shortages. Through an AI‑MATTERS–facilitated proof‑of‑concept, NFB partnered with Affix Engineering and AI-MATTER partner Brainport Industries to explore AI‑driven bin‑picking—allowing robots to automatically grab and hang parts from pallets. Initial trials using 3D vision, deep‑learning algorithms, and custom grippers have yielded promising outcomes: faster pick times, accurate placement, and reduced physical strain on workers. With labor cost savings and improved safety, NFB is now quoting next‑stage deployments—and getting ever closer to real‑world industrial rollout. Read on to see how hands‑on experimentation and accessible AI tools are bringing the factory of the future within reach.

We are happy to announce that we will be showcasing AI-MATTERS latest progress at the upcoming CoordinaTEF Full-Scale Operation Milestone Event, hosted by agrifoodTEF in Milan. This significant event, taking place on October 1, 2025, at the Aula De Carli (Politecnico di Milano) & MADE Competence Centre, will highlight the groundbreaking advancements of the EU’s Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEFs), one of which is AI-MATTERS. These initiatives, launched by the European Commission, aim to accelerate the deployment of trustworthy AI and robotics technologies.

Attendees will have the opportunity to experience live demos and validation results from TEFs, participate in policy and innovation sessions featuring key EU and national leaders, and engage in networking with tech leaders, investors, and EU institutions. Additionally, startups and SMEs can explore how CoordinaTEF supports interoperability, visibility, and cross-sector collaboration across Europe’s leading AI testing infrastructures. This event is a unique opportunity to witness Europe’s AI ecosystem in action and gain insight into its future direction.

AI-MATTERS helps technology providers and manufacturing companies collaborate on real-world experiments with AI and robotics. By offering access to test facilities, data, and expert support, it enables tech developers to validate and mature their solutions in realistic production settings, while allowing manufacturers to explore the potential of AI for their specific challenges without upfront investment. AI-MATTERS focuses on startups, scale-ups, and SMEs—though larger companies can also join—and aims to boost the resilience and flexibility of the European manufacturing sector by accelerating the deployment of intelligent, autonomous systems. If you would like to know how AI-MATTERS works and want to know what’s in it for you, head to our ‘how it works’ page, where you can get detailed information on how you can become part of the AI-MATTERS ecosystem.
